American Girl Crafts Tech Case Sewing Kit

I ordered this as a Christmas gift for my 10 year old daughter who has recently started taking an interest in sewing. She thought it was very cute and was excited to have something to keep her “phone” (not actually hooked up to phone service so actually more like a tiny tablet lol) safely in for traveling and taking back and forth to school. She is 10 and is new to sewing. She has taken a couple of classes at our local craft store for sewing on a machine, but not done any sewing by hand. "What an amazing learning opportunity!", I thought when I saw it and saw her interest in it. When she received it for the holiday, she could not wait to get started on the project. After showing her the instructions, she caught on very quickly and completed the whole thing herself! The instructions were great, and very clear if you read them carefully and lay all of your pieces out before actually starting to sew any of it. It turned out very sute, and she uses the case very often! This kit not only gave her a cute case for her device, it taught her to sew by hand (a few different stitches)!!! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fun craft for kids to do and learn a helpful skill in the process of having fun! :) I love the American Girl Company and the products they create for girls.

This was a LOT smaller then I thought it would be. It definitely won't serve as a gift alone, I will have to buy something to add with it. However, the quaility is top notch, and the colors are beautiful. It has everything you need to create the cell holder, and it seems like a fantastic idea for a tween. I would suggest it.

Thought this would be perfect for my grand daughter who is always wanting to learn to sew, but she wasn't impressed, and wandered off. She's very smart and ambitious, so I couldn't figure it out, but I think it might be that she wants to make clothes instead. (We previously made a dress for her doll and she loved that.). There is nothing wrong with the kit. It's very cute and the materials were all there and fine. We didn't finish it, but it seemed to me that the instructions were okay too. This just wasn't the right project for my 8 year old grand daughter, but I'm sure it would be great for other girls.

This was the first of this type of project for my 8 year old and it was perfect. Very cute and useful. She has even changed some of the stitching patterns to create more pockets and to personalize it. Only issue what the threader, which is usefull for this type of floss. It broke soon after starting. Would help to have another on hand

The felt material is SO CHEAPLY MADE. I sewed it all together and the stuff just looks so cheap. It's nothing like the picture. Expect this to be a throw-away and you won't be disappointed. I just let my kids play with it now. I thought AG products were of good quality but I will think twice about it now.

I sent this to my niece for a birthday gift because she loves American Girl Dolls and she loves being crafty and creative. I haven't seen her use it because she lives on the other side of the country but her parents have told me she loves it. Apparently she put it together as soon as she got it and used it as a case for her iPod touch and has kept it on her iPod since August of last year. My niece is eight which is probably a good age for this gift since it requires assembly and parents won't have to worry about keeping to close an eye on a child that age with pointy or sharp objects.

This case is cute but was a little difficult for an 8 year old. It has very detailed directions but everything doesn't line up right and the felt is super thin. I ended up finishing it for her because she couldn't get the holes to line up and was afraid of ripping it. I wouldn't buy it again or recommend it. Maybe to someone a little older but not likely.
