Alex Mercer is UNSTOPPABLE!!
You know, I have read a lot of reviews about this game, and I thought that I should write one to counter all the inaccurate poor reviews that the "1-star" raters have published. I have been playing video games since NES, then SNES and Sega Genesis, then PS1, PS2 and now...PS3, so I believe that I am qualified to write something about PROTOTYPE. My experience in PS3 gaming is reflected in the likes of Uncharted 2, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, GOW Collection, GOW 3, RE 5, Modern Warfare 2....to name a few.... and I must say that Prototype is SUPERB!!!! Prototype may not be a GOTY contender such as Uncharted 2 or GOW 3, but damn....it is still an excellent game in its right. The game is based in New York, and you can literally do ANYTHING you please and go ANYWHERE you want to go. Some say that the storyline is lame and overdone, but I think that the story is cool, with bits and pieces being thrown in during the course of the game. And besides, we all know that biological experimentation is being done in the world today, so the story is not that far-fetched. The character, Alex Mercer, is literally unstoppable as the title implies. Alex is the most powerful character that I have ever controlled. He has strength like the Incredible Hulk, speed like Superman, agility like Spiderman, reflexes like Wolverine, shape-shifting ability like Mystique (X-Men) and more combat moves than all of them combined. That is how I can best describe this hero. He runs up buildings of any size, glides through the air, and kills anyone or anything that gets in his way. If he falls from the top of the empire state building, he will get up, dust off his clothes and continue along his merry way...he's that powerful. Now with all these powers, you must understand that this is a very violent, bloody game with lots of swearing, so kids must be kept away. People always complain that the game is too violent, and that Alex kills innocent people as well. You must understand that Alex is a tortured person, who doesn't like what he is or has become, so he is filled with rage and contempt for everyone. So all those people who think Alex is too violent, you should try to understand the game properly before making such statements. And besides, it's a video game...it is entertainment, and means nothing in real life. In terms of cons, I must say that the graphics could have been a little cleaner. But then again, it is an open world game with perfectly smooth game-play and short load times, so who cares. Remember that games like Uncharted 2 and GOW 3 are games with a specific path, so graphics can be better for them. In conclusion, Prototype is a BRUTAL, SPECTACULAR game that will keep you busy for months. There is a lot to do outside of the missions, and Loads of fun to be had!! YOU MUST GET THIS GAME....ASAP :)

The most fun I've had in years!
Graphics: Let's get one thing out of the way. While the graphics in this game are not bad (A little better than Grand theft auto 4) they don't compare to titles like uncharted or Arkham asylum. And the reasoning behind this is quite simple. A large portion or your PS3's processing power in working in the HUGE environments since you're pretty much free to go wherever (or as high) as you want. Gameplay and Overall feeling of the game: Mind-blowing. Imagine being in a GTA / sandbox type of environment where you can do almost anything. Leap buildings, run across walls, Hijack armored tanks, glide above a massive (very accurate) replica of New York City (Mostly Manhattan) and unleash pain at will when you detect foes below you, I could go on and on. Weary of battle? low in health? help yourself to an innocent bystander and literally suck the life out of them. Possibilities are endless. Oh, and by the way, how do you actually "suck the life" out of them? Well, just the way the T-1000 used to do it in Terminator 2, you can replicate people on contact and become them while sucking their life energy and making it your own in the process. It's a win-win. (Maybe not for the poor basterd you snatch off the street but it works pretty well for everybody else, a.k.a.....You. - In game jargon you're technically "consuming them"). And not only you can alter your appearance to look like your victims with the push of a button. You also own their knowledge. You know everything they knew which slowly but fascinatingly unravels the plot of the game via the "web of intrigue": A living organic map that connects your victims with each other, with special emphasis on the characters that have knowledge of the mystery behind your powers and maps their previous interactions with each other before their met their doom at your hands. So, when military choppers with enough firepower to start world war 3 come after you, they quickly realize that's not such a good idea, when you catapult yourself into the air, storm the cockpit and do to the pilots things that one day you'll tell your therapist about. And guess what: you just "consumed" a military chopper pilot along with all his life memories including his ability to fly military choppers which is now.......yours. Without even landing it, guess who is flying the chopper now! (Just the way trinity used to do it in "The Matrix" but with LOTS more blood involved). Becoming people is just so much fun I found myself spending hours just infiltrating military bases, and consuming weapons specialists, fighter pilots etc. And the more you do that, the more your skills in that particular discipline are refined. I had a blast while being chased through the city by military squads just to turn around the corner, push a button, become one of them and seeing them run right past me and then get all confused. It would be right there and then when I would resort to one of several methods: 1. Use the Assault rifle now in my hands (comes with the body of the poor soul you just consumed) and shoot everybody in the back while laughing like a maniac. 2. One of my favorites, with a simple button command ACCUSE one of the soldiers of being ME in disguise resulting in the rest of the team shooting him, execution style, no questions asked. HILARIOUS. or 3, reveal my true self and impale everyone in the vicinity with lethal spikes, blades, claws or whichever one of my mutant virus obtained powers I fancy at the time, just to see everybody scream for their lives in despair. Most people compare this game to InFamous, which was released about at the same time and to my surprise is rated higher. I also own InFamous. I played InFamous for about 2 hours and it was OK. Both games are indeed very similar in it's concept but in my opinion Prototype is vastly superior. The InFamous guy was really slow. He climbs buildings and runs at human speed. The Prototype guy leaps buildings, glides to the point of almost-fly and runs at superhuman speed. Playing InFamous, was OK, but at times it felt a bit like a chore. Like I had to play through an annoying not really fun part, just to get to the fun parts people raves about on the web. Playing Prototype was an absolute blast of non-stop fun which I wasn't able to put down since the first minute I played.

Grand Theft Auto with Monsters
-Gameplay- Unlike most games out today, this allows you to freely roam about a large scale city-- in that way it is very similar to the grand theft auto series; gliding around, running up massive skyscrapers, stealing tanks, helicopters and identities. Also, there's enough gore to keep the bloodhappy guilty pleasures content without becoming another added gimmick. Enemies are *just* difficult enough to make you want to avoid them, and skill definitely comes into play with some of the larger ones. It is an experience based game, and as your character "levels up," he gains new unusual weapons and abilities. Smart combatant AI, seemingly unlimited replayability, and several character power-ups make this game good for more than simply completing objectives. -Visual/Aural- Rag doll schematics have been perfected in Prototype. Limbless, lifeless bodies and appendages bounce into one another as you slice through them in slow motion. The camera is smart, explosions are beautiful, and cityscape and sky make great strides at making you feel small. An impressive bump-map works cleverly in conjunction with textures and 2d design, placed on -most- of the city, and the radiant and reflective lighting throughout is just as impressive. Additionally, the contrast between military-controlled sections of town and the infected, ravaged "hives" really gives an added discomfort-- billows of smoke, scorched skies and the shrill shriek of distant monsters as they feed on choking, screaming innocents. Musically, this game has not broken any boundaries, though it holds strong with layered scores, 'jump' tracks (to scare you), and an intuitive themed midi that follows the story well. -Story- There is nothing fascinating about the story. It is 28 Days Later meets Alien meets Batman all over again; the only new addition being the character's "web of intrigue," essentially completing brain synapses in order to save the girlfriend, son, princess, world... To be honest, I'm not certain what the actual goal of the game is. It was muddy at times, frequently relying on made up scientific mumbojumbo while skipping over large gaps and avoiding questions the player can't help but ask. The cutscenes do little to carry the story and the far-fetched nature of the game may hinder the tale more than help it. I, personally, would much prefer a lack of explanation over a poor one, but as it is nowhere near the lines of RPG one cannot expect too much in terms of storyline.

Don't waste your time.
So, I've heard a lot about this game, so I thought I'd check it out. I do like the concept. Transforming in to almost anything lethal, while sprinting up the side of the empire state building fighting off the military, and weird mutant freaks. Unfortunately, this concept was horribly executed. The camera, like the 360 degree camera standard in most games, is your worst enemy. While you're trying to fend off enemies in front off you, out of the corner off the screen you'll see for a split-second a car being thrown at you from someone 100 yards away. And the combat sucks. Is it cool that my arm can morph into a 7 foot long blade? Yes. Is it still cool when all i can do is hit them with everything I have, and only knock off a fraction of their life, while getting the snot beat out of me due to a complete lack of any defensive measures? Not really. This game tries to make you feel like the ultimate badass, when really you feel like the ultimate dumbass. Or, at least I did, when I bought this game. Waste of time and money.

Absolute power fantasy videogame, though a bit vieolent
Amazing game! Blast from the past. Worked great on my old PS3. Very violent videogame but very fun. Makes you feel absolutely invincible throughout most of the game. Something few new games do. Disappointed in a lot of recent videogames that sacrifice fun and good gameplay in the name of garbage storytelling and forced narrative. This is not that and delivers pure fun.

Review - Prototype
This game is not a bad game at all. It is alot of fun, it can be quite addicting to play, but at the same time it does have its flaws in it. First, the story line; you are Alex Mercer and you were subject to bizarre government expiriments. After escaping form the facility you were bestowed with shapeshifting powers, including the ability to turn your body into weapons and the ability to consume other beings (people or mutants) for strength and to transform into them. Through the game, you have to find your way through the game trying to find who did it to you and to exact revenge on them. The gameplay is very similar to Infamous in it is a free roam, I like that this one has more gore, blood and killing, however as a whole I would say Infamous is a better quality game, with more fun missions. Also in comparison I like that Infamous has the awesome morality factor, while this one definately lacks that. The game itself allows quite a bit of freedom, when you start off there is almost no mutation in the city and you are safe to walk around. You are able to lift and toss cars, consume or kill pedestrians, and attack just about anything that moves or for that matter is bolted to the ground. As you progress the military starts taking control of certain segments of the city, while hives of mutants control other portions. If you venture into these areas you will have massive chatoic fights on your hands, but it is worth destroying bases and hives as you get tons spending points to upgrade your powers. The game also allows you to spend points that are granted from killing enemies (you dont get points for killing pedestrians) and you can spend these on powers such as gliding, blades, or increased skills. THE GOOD: The game really is quite awesome, it is tons of fun, can definately get chaotic at times and can be uber difficult at times. There are tons of missions to do, many of which are aimed at testing your skills. Additionally, you have a second story arc in which youmust locate key personnel who were involved in your mutation, consume them at get their momories to piece together what happened to you. The graphics for the game are quite good and the made NYC almost exactly the same as the real NYC. The game is absolutely blood drenched, you can use kill anything that moves and use claws and blade powers, your fists or you can pick up enemy wepons to do it. Also anything you find from a mailbox to a flaming car can be hurled as a weapon. The game allows you tons of freedom to do as you please, and it challenges you as much as it can. Also it is awesome that you can scale buildings, glide and dash from building to building, but beware, helecopters and mutants will be after you and they can track you just the same. Additionally, there are some great sidemissions that include you batteling massive members of military groups or huge groups of mutants i set amounts of time, or taking sides to battle one or the other. The storyline to the game is pretty awesome, and that is definatly a real win. THE BAD: The game definatly does get repetitive after awhile as running through crowds attacking everything can only be so fun. Additionally, while the main missions are awesome, the secondary missions are kind of boring and simply aim to test your jumping, gliding or fighting skills. Also, the game does not exactly offer a good longrange viewing ability. For instance you can only see a short distance and this is a product of the designers inability to properly scale buildings and surroundings. This can be an issue because there are hidden orbs that youmust find, and at times you can see the orbs unless you are standing right on top of it. Not being able to see distances make yor life a hell of alot harder when it comes to finding stuff. I think that the company could have made the side missions more creative and could have made better mini-games. The game is an awesome, yet slightly flawed at the same time. It is alot of fun to play but has the ability to get boring and repetitive over time, if you dont keep yourself occupied. I recommend this game as I find it tons of fun, also it has great reply value if you crank the game on hard after you beat it. I say buy it, I enjoyed it, but it may not be for everyone.

Great Game !
I really like this game, it was fun to play, players take control of Alex Mercer – a dark, genetically mutated shape-shifter with no memory of his past, hell-bent on solving the mystery of his existence as he tears through a densely populated New York City moving with Parkour-style fluidity and consuming anything that gets in his way. 'Deceive or Destroy' gameplay allows gamers the choice to either blend in with the population and covertly progress through the story, or fully unleash Alex’s powers, and move through New York City like a walking slaughterhouse, taking control of military vehicles, and causing destruction at every turn.

game i woud rate about 3.5 stars product and seller 5
good game needs more depth after initial impact it looses the wow factor and story becomes pretty obvious as time passes and most of the characters lack any depth to them this ultimately lead to the destruction of the franchise than created this game however the arsenal of tools that you can use to create massive destruction makes gamesplay seemless and overall fun this is the only thing that keeps u interested and it does a good job all in all for the money great buy
